I recently travelled to an abandoned ABM site where I was taken by a guide from the local administration. They informed me that
it was perfectly okay to take pictures at the location but I took the guide along just in case.
About 10 kilometers from the main road on the way to the site
The road gets worse the further you go
The first abandoned checkpoint
Another abandoned checkpoint
The road gets worse
And finally becomes impassible. We continue on foot.
A guard post near the site itself. There are dozens of messages encrypted in the graffiti.
The actual site itself. There are no guards and no warning signs not to trespass. It is completely empty and abandoned.
The feeling emanating from the location is one of decay and foreboding. Even in the middle of the day it was creepy as hell.
One of the radar towers
An abandoned bunker. Signs left by previous visitors are everywhere spray painted on all of the locations.
Another radar installation
No one knows how deep underground the complex goes but everywhere there are open manholes and openings all filled with water.
The stench and the darkness below is only made worse by the absolute silence and stillness of the place. There were not even birds singing.
There are dozens of these everywhere. These would be the installations that move to open up the missile silo. All of the manholes and hatches are welded and bolted shut.
Deeper into the site
Mystery box probably used for transporting nitro glycine based explosives. There is an arrow and markings on the top
Another radar installation
A service building. Even here hundreds of kilometers from the nearest town there is graffiti everywhere.
Another radar installation. We could not approach too close because the grass is very high and there are snakes everywhere
Another service building and radar installation
23DZ written by door. Without proper high powered flashlights and backup I did not go into the buildings at all. If you were there and you smelled the decay
and felt the suffocating silence you probably would not have gone in either. All of the snakes and the secret signs and the things we saw on the ground
were enough to know that there were people actively using the location. Either drug addicts or Satanists or God knows whom.
The sky got weird looking for some reason and earlier even though the sun was shining it started to rain.
Accessible radar installation
DO NOT SHAKE is written on the box. There must have been nitro all over this place
Bullet holes and ashes all over the place. I do not know what someone was doing here but it does not look good. The bullet holes in the back
wall are arrayed where someone's head would be.
AND NOW INSIDE.
There were mattresses all over the place but they looked like they had not been used for a long time.
All I had was a keychain light, I should have been better prepared. The inside was completely pitch black and the guide stayed outside.
The lighting was from the flash on the camera. X5?
The deeper I went the more I could hear rustlings as if there was someone in there. I could see almost nothing but did take some pictures.
This is one of those stained mattresses.
This was fresh. MI-5?
More ashes here
At this point I was certain I was being watched and turned around fumbling in the darkness. It was only later that I noticed something that looks
like 2 eyes. Of course it was just something on the wall but when I first saw them on the camera screen in the car I was shocked.
Near the exit which was to the right. The writing on the wall to the left reads "savages x7+1:) + KEY".. Not really wanting to meet the savages I went out
Thank God DAYLIGHT!!!
My guide quietly guiding. She did not speak and later I actually thought she may have been a ghost (just kidding). I might add I was stone
cold sober and it was broad daylight. I followed her to what you see below. Great. Just what was missing! A makeshift graveyard.
Perhaps it was just a game to scare people off I do not know. I did not have a shovel nor the desire to actually dig into the
ground to see if there were actually bodies there. There were dozens so it is unlikely no one knows about it.
It was getting late and I wanted to be far from this place by nightfall and this desk, seemingly out of nowhere seemed a sign that
going deeper into the territory was a bad idea. So I headed back with my guide. Who kept seeming to disappear here and there.
The ribbon on the ground is interesting. There was the same stuff inside the building leading deeper into it.
As if someone had made sure they did not want to get lost inside and had laid it down to follow it out. Again if I had
flashlights and weapons or back up I amy have gone deeper and followed the ribbon to the end but it was too creepy.
On the way back we thought dogs had shown up. The birds were the size of dogs. They were very far away and it was only
with the full zoom of the camera that we realized they were ravens.
We can only guess why there were surgeons gloves thrown around. These are not easy to find in Russia.
Finally near the guardhouse a log book of entries.
We were not the first people here and not the first to place photos on the internet. If you know Russian you can find this location
on Yandex otherwise I will not give away the location. I would not recommend anyone visiting the place. Although I did have the idea
to open some sort of club there and refurbish the building if I found an investor. The site has potential even though it is no longer useful or
even a secret to the Ministry of Defense.
